The NATIONAL PUBLIC COMPETITION OF ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING FOR THE RECALIFICATION OF THE CENTRAL FAIR OF CAMPINA GRANDE" is promoted by the Municipality of Campina Grande with the organization of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB) and the support of the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of Brazil (CAU/BR), the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of Paraíba (CAU/PB), the Institute of Architects of Brazil - Department of Paraíba (IAB/PB) and the National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN). The competition aims to reclassify the 40,000 square meters of Feira Central, considered the heart of the city.

According to Mayor Bruno Cunha Lima Branco, the initiative aims to ensure a transparent and democratic bidding process to bring together projects from architects from all over Brazil. This type of choice is based exclusively on technical quality criteria.

Since September 27, 2017, the Feira de Campina Grande has been among the intangible assets recognized as Cultural Heritage of Brazil and is registered by the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) in the Places Registry Book. Growing in importance and dimensions, it has become the object of interest of urban regeneration proposals, which must be conducted according to the needs of the people who live there every day. From Monday to Saturday, the movement of visitors and goods attracts by its size, relevance and diversity. "This contest is of utmost importance for the valorization of the Feira Central de Campina Grande and an opportunity to take the name of the municipality to the whole country. Our goal, as a municipal administration, is to deliver a new public space that includes everything that the community, visitors and tourists deserve," reports Mayor Bruno Cunha Lima Branco.
