The recent Executive Committee of the Pan American Federation of Architects Associations (FPAA) unanimously approved that the Network of Museums of Pan American Architecture (RED MAPA) be a coordinated project with a permanent secretariat at the Museum-Archive of Architecture of Ecuador (MAE), which makes the museum an institutional partner of the FPAA.
The MAPA NETWORK was established on July 17, 2020 in a virtual meeting convened precisely by the MAE. This meeting was attended by representatives from eight countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, who agreed on a horizontal structure for the exchange of knowledge and experiences that is adapted to the context of the American continent.
Since 2020, several meetings have been held to advance in the constitution of the network. This year, as part of the achievements in management, the endorsement of FPAA to promote, disseminate and make visible the MAPA NETWORK, within the framework of the objectives of the federation to articulate and generate connections between culture and the production of architecture, thus promoting relations between institutions that disseminate architecture and contribute to the construction of social reality in America.
For the MAE, a cultural project of the Pichincha Provincial Association of Architects of Ecuador, coordinating this regional network and being the permanent seat of its secretariat is very important, as it allows it to consolidate itself as a promoter of cooperation and exchange between architectural museums in the region. Likewise, the appointment strengthens its public commitment to architecture, landscape and the built environment, positioning itself as a space that seeks access and collection of architectural archives, protection of cultural property and fair practices for architectural museum institutions.
