06 Feb 103rd anniversary of the Instituto de Arquitetos do Brasil - IAB
January 26th marked 103 years of existence of the Instituto de Arquitetos do Brasil - IAB, an institution that has become synonymous with commitment and dedication to the valorization of architecture and the tireless defense of professionals.
The president of the Institute, Odilo Almeida, highlights the importance of an IAB capable of facing the challenges of the past and present:
"Today, January 26, we celebrate 103 years of existence of the Institute of Architects of Brazil - the IAB. It is 103 years of dedication to the defense of our category and of Brazilian architecture.
In more than a century of existence, our Institute has dedicated itself, represented and defended agendas that go beyond everyday professional life, combining category struggles with the public interest and gaining, with our work, more space and relevance.
Together we went through times of economic advances and setbacks, of democratic and dictatorial regimes and, as a result, we consolidated the IAB as one of the main civil society institutions in Brazil. This country went through dark times and, in those times, it counted on the strength of men and women who once commanded our Institute and who fought for the construction and maintenance of a democratic rule of law.
Our history is intertwined with the modern history of Brazil and tells society how we have evolved in projects, proposals and achievements of great relevance to the category and its needs. Therefore, in more than a century of history, the IAB's commitment has been with current and future professionals, with the society in which we participate and which we want to build.
On behalf of the IAB, we thank all those who are part of this history and we invite those who do not yet know the Institute to approach us, so that, together, we can advance in our struggles for architects and urban planners throughout Brazil.
