From November 13 to 17, 2023, the Society of Architects of Uruguay (SAU) will hold the National Congress of Architecture called "Making City".
This event seeks to be a space for meeting and reflection on the disciplinary practice and the role of architects in a global context, marked by the challenges of sustainability, social inclusion and the impacts of scientific-technological transformations.
In this sense, it is aligned with the International Union of Architects (UIA), which has called on colleagues from around the world to reflect on this juncture of the discipline in the framework of the World Congress in Copenhagen - July 2023 - under a powerful slogan that we assume as our own: "Sustainable Futures. Leaving no one behind".
The Society of Architects of Uruguay bets that this instance will constitute an open space for exchange and debate on the challenges and opportunities that this present and future scenario poses, and an area of visibility and recognition of significant professional practices, which, from different areas, specificities and scales, are carried out in our environment.
On the other hand, with a focus on the national projection of the Congress, the exhibition and awarding of the projects submitted to the Contest of Work Performed (COR2023) and the National Meeting of SAU Departmental Commissions will take place within the framework of the same, as well as the National Meeting of SAU Departmental Commissions.
This event, already sponsored by the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the UdelaR, the Municipality of Montevideo and the ORT Faculty of Architecture, seeks to be a space for meeting and reflection on the disciplinary practice and the role of architects in a global context, marked by the challenges of sustainability, social inclusion and the impacts of scientific-technological transformations.
It will also host the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Pan American Federation of Architects' Associations - FPAA -, the First Pan American Meeting of Architecture Biennials, the National Meeting of Departmental Commissions, and the exhibition, judging and awarding of prizes for the Competition of Realized Works - COR 2023.
The development of these events within the framework of the Congress will allow us to have a series of lectures by relevant voices of contemporary Latin American architecture, in addition to workshops and technical talks beforehand.
